Debut single 'Charm Offensive' from Limerick's SWEETS

Updated: Sep 14, 2022

With a pick & mix of members from other bands, SWEETS deliver a pummelling opening statement of intent.

Track: Charm Offensive

Band: SWEETS

Released: September 2 2022

Charm Offensive, the debut single from SWEETS, is a blistering statement of intent which grabs you right from the opening note. Heavy and riff driven with unrelenting drums, the crisp textured vocals elevate the song into a more arms aloft atmosphere than most alt rock.

SWEETS is a new alternative rock band from Limerick, Ireland. The band’s roots are firmly entrenched in Limerick’s prolific music scene. It features long-time collaborators Liam Marley (Guitar/Vox) and Lorcan Bourke (Drums) who had been writing songs together for over ten years before joining forces with close friends Keith Lawler (Guitar) and Bertie Kelly (Bass) to form SWEETS in 2021. As the band say “It took a pandemic to finally get us together, it just felt like the right time.”

This is an extremely assured debut of power and precision; probably in part because the members already play in renowned local acts Tooth, Giveamanakick, Windings & Blowtorch Records recent collaborators Japanese Jesus.

There's a debut EP in the offing and they tell us to expect "powerful, guitar-driven, hook-filled songs, laden with unexpected riffs, pounding rhythms and textured vocals that flips the riffy/post-hardcore/grunge sound on its head."

That's some mission statement and they've already nailed it on track one. The power they generate from the way the bass binds everything together is incredible. Add in the melodic vocals and there's something special brewing down in the Treaty County.

We say for fans of Queens Of The Stone Age, Hüsker Dü/Bob Mould, Fugazi and Therapy? They say follow us, come and see us live and you will not be disappointed. Although your eyes will be opened and your ears will be ringing.
