Adelina from James Darcy is the second single from this rising Tipperary-based indie alt pop composer and singer.
Track: Adelina
Artist: James Darcy
Released: November 14 2025

Opening up with a string section reminiscent of Richard Hawley, Adelina by Thurles, Tipperary based, solo indie artist James Darcy announces itself with a baroque alt pop flourish.
His previous (debut) single The Middle was firmly rooted in Damien Rice territory yet also with a nod to more chart focused singer/songwriters.
Adelina marks a step forward, not only in the songwriting but also in production and, crucially, confidence as he channels some of the euphoric uplift which Richard Ashcroft brings to his best solo tracks. This is no mean feat as the lyrics depict the narrator's battle with his personal demons, anthropomorphised as Adelina. It's a neat trick, naming the anomie of addiction; flipping the convention of a romantic ballad that one might might expect from such a track.
Not your average lyric and set to the surging strings of a chamber pop backing, it's a compelling track which bodes well for Darcy.
Having said that we are firmly in ballad land here. However it's more rooted in the story telling tradition rather than maudlin melancholy as Darcy lays bare the push/pull battle of human will power versus addiction. He was once a 'king who stood tall above it tall'; now he surveys 'Adelina' gauging whether she is beaten or has the power to ruinously reenter his life. Not your average lyric and set to the surging strings of a chamber pop backing, it's a compelling track which bodes well for Darcy. We will watch with interest to see if he heads towards the competitive, radio friendly world of the chart ballad or the more baroque stylings of the troubled troubadour such as Gene Clark or Scott Walker.

James Darcy hails from Thurles, Tipperary and Adelina was self recorded and produced entirely in his home studio. His aim, he says, is "to produce music that not only entertains but also enriches the listener's journey. With each new project, I aim to deepen the engagement with my audience, offering a window into the complexities and beauty of life through my songs."
