The Owl Sounds release second single 'K-Town'

Phil Wyer, ex LA session musician and guitarist for Meryl Streek, releases second single K-Town with his solo project The Owl Sounds
Track: K-Town
Band: The Owl Sounds
Released: October 6 2026

K-Town is the second single released by The Owl Sounds (the solo project of multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Phil Wyer) after the well-received debut release Oscar.
The track is about his years living in Los Angeles (as a session musician) and "what I’d love to get back to, life is so stressful and difficult over here. Surfing was incredible for the mind, also skateboarding around Korea Town where I lived was amazing. Just the sense of calm freedom."
The whole track is a compact songwriting wonder: no intro, pulsing verses, euphoric chorus, the briefest of breakdowns. Nothing outlasts its welcome and yet the track stays with you.
The track wastes no time getting into a punchy bass-driven rhythmic verse which is reminiscent of New Order and Johnny Marr's recent solo work. The relative simplicity of the verse is offset by a melodic sing along chorus in which the bass provides a delightful counterpoint not unlike David Holmes' I Heard Wonders.
The whole track is a compact songwriting wonder: no intro, pulsing verses, euphoric chorus, the briefest of breakdowns. Nothing outlasts its welcome and yet the track stays with you.
Reflecting on K-Town he relates: "The chorus is about moving back out to LA and building a house out of stone; they build with wood primarily and are always in danger of a forest fire. So build it tall - build from stone.
"The second verse is about how fake and gentrified TV shows make LA look; the police will move lots of homeless people just so camera crews can film and it’s really not representative of how it is. It's a dangerous place if you don't know your way around.
"Saying that I loved living there and playing music everyday was a joy, I’ll move back one day."
Phil is now based in Wexford, Ireland and is the studio guitar and bass player for Dublin punk poet Meryl Streek who releases his third album on October 9. The pair have been friends for over twenty years and when Dave Mulvaney began his Meryl Streek project he contacted Wyer to ask him to help out on guitar. He also 'kicked me up the arse to release my own music' says Phil. With Oscar and K-Town released he is working on more tracks with the aim of a vinyl EP release.
