Cork power trio Ash Red's new single release DB COOPER provides a glimpse of what's to come on their debut album later this year.
Track: DB COOPER
Band: Ash Red
Released: August 22 2025

Following the release of their STUPID EP in May 2025, Cork power alt rock trio Ash Red have released the first single DB COOPER from their debut album THE FOREIGN GAME. This will see a digital and limited Blowtorch Records vinyl release in November.
Undoubtedly a step up in songwriting class from previous releases, DB COOPER begins gently enough with a hint of Journey's Don't Stop Believin'. Around the 50 second mark it explodes into a riot of 90s alt rock energy and controlled power trio aggression. Frontman Arthur Murray delivers a powerhouse vocal performance to leave you thinking 'is this the best song Pixies never wrote?'
DB COOPER references self-destruction, recklessness and its consequences, for some. Started by Arthur, the whole thing was fleshed out at band practice. Bassist Tadhg relates "Arthur had the song and was playing a bit of it ... later in the band practice me and him were speaking about John Cooper Clark, to which Isaac (drummer) responded 'is he the guy who jumped out of the plane?'. The song was missing a second verse so we wrote one about DB Cooper, the actual guy who jumped out of the plane." All very Black Francis.
Ash Red initially started as a four-piece. The group evolved into their current line up, a three-piece outfit comprised of Arthur Murray on guitar and vocals, Tadhg O’Keeffe on bass and backing vocals, and Isaac Walsh on drums. Their sound reflects themes of isolation, desire, and defiance, with lyrics and compositions that mirror the challenges of feeling like an outsider in a conformist society.
Over the years, the band has experienced dynamic changes in its lineup and creative direction, gaining momentum through energetic live performances across Ireland and the UK, and establishing a distinctive voice that resonates with both local and international audiences.
