Charlotte's Song is Kildare four piece Blue Slate's new single release as they announce their debut EP This Is How I Sleep At Night

Further to previous 2024 single Beaker, Blue Slate have released their second single of 2024 Charlotte's Song. They are delivering mightily on the promise noted by Hot Press in their 'Hot For 2024 Irish Acts' as  "... another deliciously noisy group in a long line of Irish shoegaze outfits, Blue Slate fuse weighty walls of sound with shimmering melodic guitars to create a distinct identity."
Along with the single announcement, the Kildare shoegaze/fuzz noise four piece have also signalled the release of their debut EP This Is How I Sleep At Night on February 12 2025. This will see a limited 10" vinyl release via Blowtorch Records as well as being available on all streaming outlets.
There's so much more to this band than walls of guitar noise ... think solo Johnny Marr backed by Ride.
Charlotte's Song is a quieter, more meditative number than previous singles and with its fluid intro iced with spidery guitar, hints at The Cure, another band with a Charlotte related song. A closer relation for this reviewer is the melodic acoustic/electric mix of The Las or Cast with sparkling lead guitar lines threaded throughout the track. There's so much more to this band than walls of noise - as well as the Cast reference, maybe think solo Johnny Marr backed by Ride.
Blue Slate exploded onto the Irish music scene in 2023, captivating listeners with their mesmerising live shows. They have played across Europe, including London, Paris and at Rotterdam’s Left of the Dial festival. Blue Slate cemented their status when they played a sold out headline show in The Workman’s Club upon returning from London.
