Wifeswap release debut five track EP 'Digging'

Dublin's tender art/alt rock outfit Wifeswap release their debut EP Digging on streaming platforms and 12" vinyl with a launch gig and in store to come.

Wifeswap's debut five track EP Digging is out now on streaming platforms and a Blowtorch Records 12" black vinyl record.

The EP was recorded in Belfast's Start Together studio and explores grief in all its many forms and facets, As frontman Joe Brody noted on lead single Bosman Ruling "it serves as a starting point for exploring those ideas around falling out of touch with your own identity and developing quite unhealthy coping mechanisms”.

In this episode of the Blowtorch Records podcast, Joe and Jasper from the band discuss the writing and production of the EP. The songs range from older tracks which have been reworked and those such as Calliope which were finished just before they headed into the studio.

Back to Joe: “Calliope is a pulsing love letter to writing. Despite getting distracted by meaningless, empty pursuits of easy dopamine, writing is always on my mind.

“I think the key to understanding the EP is by digging in to its endless looping nature. I think either becoming numb to the words and the feelings on show or feeling it heavier with each repetition is the best encapsulation of grief in my mind. Grief is the central theme here. It wasn’t so intentional but rather it just emerged when it came time to sequence the track listing before going to record it. In the time that we’ve been away from releasing our last music we’ve all lived with our own grief from very different sources. The more we’ve lived with the record the more it’s all started to make sense”.

Wifeswap comprise Joe Brody (vocals, rhythm guitar), Jasper Ryan (lead guitar), Cian Bates (bass) and Lorcan Connolly (drums). Combining art rock and literary influences, Wifeswap debuted in October 2022 at a sold-out Workman’s Cellar gig. They have since followed their own path and carved out their emotional alt rock niche in the independent Irish music scene.
