Our weekly fix of the best new music as Julia Mason (aka The Decibel Decoder) brings us her new music review with singles from Native Sun Adam and Spiritual Cramp Young Offenders

Artist: Native Sun
Track: Adam

New York City rock 'n’ roll outfit Native Sun deliver pulsating new effort Adam marking the fourth single from forthcoming debut album Concrete Language set for release 19 September via TODO. The album arrives ahead of a mammoth UK and European headline tour this autumn, and preceded by a US tour alongside Bass Drum Of Death.
Fronted by Colombian-born Danny Gomez (vox/guitar) alongside Justin Barry (bass/vox), Jack Hiltabidle (guitar), and Argentine-born Nicolas Espinosa (drums), Native Sun is celebrated for their visceral, untamed live shows and Gomez’s socially-charged lyrics that confront reality head-on, channeling disillusionment into action and lovingly documenting the lives of society’s misfits and marginalised. The new single is no exception. The initial swagger highlights living in the city, quizzing "where are you coming from? where are you going to?", and declaring "To live this life you gotta move along". All fairly sedate to a point, but this is Native Sun and all hell breaks loose in the final third, as if the frustrations boil over and a desire to break free from the hamster wheel can no longer be suppressed.
Sharing more on the new single the band explained: “Adam is a song about friendship in a city that never slows down. People come and go, but the memories stick. It’s inspired by one surreal night riding through New York, chasing something we couldn’t name.”
Produced and mixed by Jonathan Schenke (Parquet Courts, Snail Mail, Bodega, The Drums) and mastered by Joe LaPorta (David Bowie, IDLES, Vampire Weekend, Run The Jewels).

Artist: Spiritual Cramp
Track: Young Offenders

Last month San Francisco punks Spiritual Cramp announced their second album RUDE, set for release on 24 October. They now share new song Young Offenders, a DEVO-addled, extremely fun track pulsing with electronics and a stuttery bridge, underpinned with a fist-pumping punk chorus.
Spiritual Cramp are a band who put a smile on your face, and boy do we need that right now. This track is no exception, rattling along at pace with no choice but to bob and weave to its infectious beat. Young Offenders arrives with an equally fun and campy Sean Stout directed video starring the band on a faux late night show, live studio audience and all. The band have also announced a 24-date North American tour in support of the album, kicking off 17 February in San Diego.
Produced by Grammy award-winning John Congleton, mixed by Carlos de la Garza, and featuring a duet with Sharon Van Etten, the album feels like a massive level up for the band. After perfecting their kaleidoscopic take on punk over a handful of EPs and one album, the band has entered a new era, expanding the songwriting duties across the entire group, a role that vocalist Michael Bingham and bassist Michael Fenton had previously helmed. The results blend new wave burn, indie rock swagger, old-school punk and even dub and hip-hop flourishes. Bring. It. On.
