Some Remain have released their debut EP Feel Low - Jonah Hoy reviews.
When people talk about the good ol' days and bullshit about how it was better in their day, usually it wasn't and they're just miserable because they aren't young with no responsibilities anymore. However, sometimes the words of the cranky old people we talk to and the fascists on TV might have some small grain of truth. Not the terrible policy, foreign and domestic, or your grandfather who can't stand the sight of a guy with a little black nail polish - instead the music.
fast paced power chords and upbeat rhythms have you headbanging at super sonic speeds. I felt like I was taken back to CBGBs or the hardcore LA scene in the 80s.

Some Remain have released their new (debut) EP, Feel Low and it has all that nostalgic ooey gooeyness you can just eat up. The fast paced power chords and upbeat rhythms have you headbanging at super sonic speeds. I felt like I was taken back to CBGBs or the hardcore LA scene in the 80s.
The first track, Marvelous Medicine opens up with heavy distorted power chords and it holds like a rifleman pulling his piece, moving it with their target until pow! Hold, for another marvelous shot. Their melodies remind me of the Zero Boys and how powerful yet tight their tuneful playing is. Some Remain give a flattering, across the pond trip down memory lane.
Their lyrics are sung at a pace and as if the singer is nodding off or can't be bothered but has to sing anyway in a dry, apathetic nasal tone. Some Remain let their indecision of reckless decisions take you on a sloppy, noisy painting that would be the reverse of Bob Ross.
The fourth track, Henri pulls you around like you're being dragged in circles by a truck and the Zero Boys melodies come sporadically while the rest of the song feels like they're throwing paint at an easel trying to figure out what it'll make as they go.
Their nihilistic attitude ends on a bittersweet ballad. Feel Low, the title track strokes you with its clean angelic verse, 'til it drowns all dejection out of the singer with noisy chords and instruments and holds the atmosphere. With no hope and an inflection that screams, why bother? Even in the sloppy feeling of moving throughout the day, just to get through not because you care but because what other choice is there?
Feel Low is a classic reminder of punk and its upbeat, fast paced rhythm contrasts well with their don't care singing and lyrics. Sometimes nostalgia can be an ugly way for anxiety to creep up and create this harrowing feeling inside you, but other times a gentle reminder of a version of yourself to look back fondly on. Some Remain is that reminder to the angsty punk in high school discovering his love and ways into the genre.
