Repetition Without Permission will be The Swedish Railway Orchestra's last LP as Rob Smith's electronic project release lead single Dead Man's Ghost

The new Swedish Railway Orchestra album Repetition Without Permission sees Dublin musician Rob Smith bring his electronic project to a close. The album's lead single, Dead Man's Ghost, sees The Swedish Railway Orchestra join forces with the highly acclaimed Mancunian poet Mike Garry, whose father is from Westmeath and mother from Armagh. His powerful spoken word performance weaves seamlessly through the track, creating one of the album's most poignant and memorable moments while marking a bold departure from the project's familiar sonic palette.

Blending shimmering electronica, melancholic trip-hop, psychedelic textures and hypnotic, danceable rhythms, the new album sees Dublin musician Rob Smith bring the project to a close with its most immersive and accomplished collection yet. Rich in atmosphere and melody, Repetition Without Permission expands on the experimental sound that has defined The Swedish Railway Orchestra over the past decade while offering a fitting final chapter.

"I started TSRO simply as a way of making a different kind of music," Smith explains. "I said I'd give it ten years and just make records. No gigs, no collaborations and no covers." The plan was almost entirely realised. Apart from a handful of cover versions released as B-sides, including songs originally by Gilla Band, the project remained fiercely independent. Live performances were never part of the vision, despite offers to appear at major festivals and support high-profile artists. It wasn't until this final album that Smith broke one of his own rules by inviting guest collaborators into the studio.

"I guess it's run its course now," he says. "But I'm really happy with the discography. I'm leaving it behind with what I think is the best work I've ever created."

Repetition Without Permission will be available as a limited edition 12" vinyl, pressed on blue and yellow "egg yolk" effect vinyl. Atmospheric, introspective and rather expectedly somewhat danceable, Repetition Without Permission serves as both a bold artistic statement and a fitting farewell to one of Ireland's most distinctive independent electronic music projects.
